HOW DOMESTICATION CHANGED RABBITS' BRAIN
In an article published by the prestigious journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), an international team that includes CIBIO-InBIO researchers Miguel Carneiro, Sandra Afonso, José António Blanco-Aguiar and Nuno Ferrand, shows that there are striking differences in brain morphology between wild and domestic rabbits.
By using high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) the study, which now has been highlighted by the media, concluded that particular regions of the brain, involved in fear processing and emotional controlling, have changed.
