CIBIO-InBIO RESEARCHERS WIN THE BEST SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ARTICLE AWARD

CIBIO-InBIO RESEARCHERS WIN THE BEST SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ARTICLE AWARD

ISDRS rewarded the article “Integrating ecosystem services and disservices: insights from plant invasions”, published in the scientific journal Ecosystem Services and developed by an international team that includes CIBIO-InBIO researchers Ana Sofia Vaz, Joana Vicente e João Honrado. The award was attributed during the 2018 ISDRS Conference, which took place in Italy from the 13th to 15th of June.

In this article, the researchers propose a social-ecological framework that considers both ecosystem services (benefits) and disservices (nuisances) to human well-being, providing a management hierarchy that promotes sustainability through decision-making.

Their approach is applied to plant invasions, as a complex social-ecological phenomenon in the Anthropocene.
