I have a BSc in Forestry and Natural Resources Engineering from the School of Agronomy (ISA) which I finished in 2012, and later in 2014 I also completed my MSc in Management and Conservation of Natural Resources at the same institute.
During and after concluding my MSc thesis, I became interested in ornithology, carrying out studies centered mainly on bird ecology and taxonomy. As a result, I had the opportunity to work as a research fellow at CIBIO/InBIO at the Tropical Research Institute in Lisbon (IICT), developing my studies with historical African bird collections. To achieve this goal, I taxonomically revised and georeferenced the entire collections from Angola, São Tomé and Príncipe and Mozambique. I also collaborated in a project supported by COST Action ES1304 (‘ParrotNet’). My main activity in this project was monitoring the population of the most invasive parakeet worldwide, the Rose-ringed Parakeet (Psittacula krameri Scopoli, 1769), inhabiting the city of Lisbon.
In early 2016, I decided to expand my knowledge and pursue a new line of research in the field of mammalian food-webs. Since then, I have worked as a research fellow at the Centre for Applied Ecology "Prof. Baeta Neves" (CEABN/InBIO), where my main goal consists of developing a database on the food-webs of continental Iberian mammals.
At the present year of 2017, I will begin my PhD programme under a FCT studentship. The aim of this doctoral proposal is to increase the current capacity of predicting future invasion events using global trade bird data.
