Environmental monitoring of Sines Industrial and Logistics Zone, biomonitoring component

The implementation of the biomonitoring component of the environmental monitoring plan for the industrial and logistics zone of Sines (ZILS), managed by aicep Global Parques (ZILS Global Parques), with the purpose of evaluating the cumulative effect of air pollutants in this area. 

Specific goals included: i) Assessing the long term impacts of air pollution at ZILS using the diversity of epiphytes lichens - chronic pollution; ii) Quantifying the atmospheric deposition in the surroundings of ZILS using lichen transplants as bio-accumulators of various pollutants (metal, organic and gaseous compounds) and iii) Quantifying the atmospheric deposition in the surroundings of ZILS using lichens in situ as bio-accumulators of various pollutants (metal, organic and gaseous compounds).
