Ecological characterization of the bird communities and monitoring of the “barrier effect” in the powerline Carrapatelo–Estarreja 2/Carrapatelo–Mourisca (220 kV)

Ecological characterization of the bird communities and monitoring of the “barrier effect” in the powerline Carrapatelo–Estarreja 2/Carrapatelo–Mourisca (220 kV)

The purpose of this project was to perform a global characterization of the bird communities in the area of the powerline corridor during an annual cycle, and to establish the reference situation of the “barrier effect” before the re-construction/alterations of the new powerline. The work included a detailed spatial and temporal characterization of the bird communities and a description of the fligth and crossing patterns of the powerline by species more prone to collisions (eg., birds of prey, large non-passerines, birds in flocks).
