Archaeobotanical study of Cidadelhe (Mesão Frio)

In the context of an evaluation and promotion project of the Iron Age and Roman hillfort Cidadelhe, promoted by Direção Regional de Cultura do Norte, archaeological excavations were carried out by Archeo’Estudos, Lda. (https://www.facebook.com/archeoestudos) in 2013. The intervention was coordinated by Paulo Lemos and Paula Abranches.

CIBIO-InBIO was responsible for the charcoal analyses and the carpological study of soil samples recovered during the excavation. The archaeobotanical study was a developer-funded project. It aimed on acquiring palaeoecological and palaeoethnobotanical data, mostly regarding the use of wood resources and agricultural practices. Relevant results were obtained and will be published soon.
