Rui Andrade

My main research interests are entomology, specifically on the taxonomy, behaviour and distribution of insects of the order Diptera in Portugal.

Since 2008, I have been doing fieldwork throughout mainland Portugal with the aim of contributing to the knowledge of the Diptera, a group of insects with great ecological importance but which has received little attention in Portugal. As a result, I published several studies, mostly on the taxonomy, distribution and behaviour of several families of this group, in collaboration with several international specialists. Recently, I have collaborated in projects aimed at increasing taxonomical capacity through the use of DNA barcoding techniques.

Throughout the years I have also worked to promote knowledge on insect ecology and diversity aimed at the general public, including participation in the publication of a field guide on invertebrates and articles in nature magazines aimed at the general public.
