Filipe Fontes Pinto concluded his Integrated Masters degree in Veterinary Medicine (IMVM) in 2017 at ICBAS (Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto), with a final thesis on hematology of birds and reptiles. As a result, Filipe was invited to participate as a researcher in two international research projects about hemoparasites at the Research Center in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources (CIBIO). In addition to the different courses already completed in the field of veterinary and exotic and wild animals, he was certified as a Rabbit Welfare Auditor by the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology-IRTA in 2021. His professional career as a veterinarian has focused on exotic and wild species research, clinical and laboratory practice, and teaching. He currently works as a veterinarian at the multinational pharmaceutical company HIPRA, where he is responsible for the technical services of vaccines against Myxomatosis and Rabbit Viral Hemorrhagic Disease. Since 2017, Filipe has been teaching hematology in exotic and wild animals to 4th-year IMVM students at ICBAS and helping other veterinary colleagues with exotic animal consultations on their hospitals or clinics. His scientific path has focused on the same areas. Until 2020, Filipe Pinto was a professional volleyball player, where he had to balance his athletic career with his academic and professional pursuits. He represented Portugals National Beach and Indoor Teams over 70 times. He was national champion of under-20 beach volleyball in 2009 and became national champion in seniors first division in 2010. In 2015, Filipe was university champion of beach volleyball by the University of Porto.
