Bjorn Berning

I have received a PhD in Palaeontology/Geology at the University of Hamburg (Germany) in 2005, studying Late Miocene bryozoans from southern Spain, and then spent two years at the University of Graz (Austria) as a postdoc before becoming Head of the Geoscience Collections of the Upper Austrian State Museum in Linz (Austria) in 2008. I have returned to Hamburg in 2022 and am loosely associated with the Departments of Zoology and Palaeontology at the University of Hamburg again. 

My reasearch focuses on the taxonomy, biogeography and ecology of Neogene and Recent Bryozoa from northern Atlantic seamounts and islands, paticularly the Azores.
