Admire Phiri

I am a functionalist linguist specializing in the languages of Southern African with eight years fieldwork experience working with Kalahari hunter-gatherer communities. I worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Stellenbosch University and the University of the Free State following the completion of my PhD studies. My ongoing research focuses on several areas, including sociolinguistics, language contact, hunting gestures and human-animal communication. I am also fascinated by the linguistic prehistory of southern Africa and language change following the pastoralist migrations into the region.
