“FIREPROOF” SPECIAL TV REPORT FROM SIC CHANNEL FEATURED FRANCISCO MOREIRA

The daily TV programme, included on June 11 a special issue on forest fires “Fireproof”, highlighting the beginning of the critical season of fires and the urgent need of preserving and managing the national forests.

This special report brought attention to some projects that aimed to preserve and manage the forests not only to prevent fires, but to capacitate these green areas to restore themselves more efficiently.
In this context, CIBIO-InBIO researcher, Francisco Moreira talked about the urgent necessity of shifting the current management politics and paradigm regarding forest fires. According to Francisco “It is urgent to restructure the politics of management of the territory, in order to prevent catastrophic consequences for nature and human life. The key factor is not the area that burns, but the impact of the fire within several scenarios.”
