MUSEUM TECHNIQUES IN THE 21st CENTURY (BIRDS AND MAMMALS)
This course aims to:
- describe the value of museums in the 21st century;
- present the ways that ‘voucher specimens’ of birds and mammals are prepared (that follow long-standing traditions);
- discuss state-of-the-art ‘whole specimen’ techniques including Cornell specialities such as CT scanning and sound recording;
- consider how museum specimens provide genetic and genomic resources.
PROGRAMME
DAY 1. April 23, 2018
09.30 - 12.30 | Value of museums in the 21st century and current methods for preparing specimens, followed by discussion
14.30 - 17.30 | Practical session preparing voucher specimens
DAY 2. April 24, 2018

INTENDED AUDIENCE
The course will be open to a maximum number of 15 participants.
Priority will be given to:
- 1st year and other PhD students attending the BIODIV Doctoral Program;
- PhD students attending other courses;
- Other post-graduate students and researchers.

Participation is free of charge for BIODIV students | 50 € (students) / 100 € (other participants). CIBIO-InBIO members will have an additional discount of 20%. Does not include lunch nor coffee breaks.
