ECOLOGY, CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT OF AZOREAN GAME BIRD SPECIES
David Gonçalves, an assistant Professor in the Department of Biology, Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto, and researcher in the group Conservation Genetics and Wildlife Management(CONGEN) will give a seminar entitled "Ecology, Conservation and Management of Azorean game bird species" on 4th of November, at 14.30, in Campus Agrário de Vairão auditorium.
Azorean terrestrial bird species present particularities that have important implications in local game management and conservation. In this seminar David Gonçalves will describe part of the project on the Azorean game species, namely the studies developed with birds (woodcock, common quail and common snipe), focusing on ecological aspects and some evolutionary traits.
David Gonçalves is Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology, Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto, and researcher in the group Conservation Genetics and Wildlife Management (CONGEN) in CIBIO Porto. Graduate in Biology at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto (FCUP), holds an MSc in Applied Ecology (FCUP) and a PhD in Biology (FCUP). The main area of scientific activity is avian biology and ecology. Research interests include intraspecific variation in bird migration (evolutionary and regulatory aspects), biogeography and phylogeography of bird species, ecological modelling and conservation biology.
