ADVANCED COURSE: ART & DESIGN FOR SCIENTISTS

The course intends to give a theoretical introduction on what is Art and Design, their applications and links to Science. The goal is to empower researchers and students with tools to improve their presentations, posters and communications skills through Art and Design.

 

PROGRAMME

Day 1) - 3h
10:00-13:00 What is Art? Definition, types and form of Art and its values. How is art useful for Science? Advantages of its use for scientific representations. Brief History of Arts focusing in the parallel evolution of Art and Science.
3h Autonomous Practical Exercise


Day 2) - 3h
10:00-13:00 Brief History of Arts focusing in the parallel evolution of Art and Science (cont). The seven plastic values.
3h Autonomous Practical Exercise


Day 3) - 3h
10:00-13:00 What is Design? Brief History of Design and its links to Science. The ten basic principles of Design. Practical exercise.
3h Autonomous Practical Exercise


Day 4) - 4h
14:00-18:00 Practical exercises: analysing the work of trainees and building a design piece with trainee's scientific data.


Day 5) - 3h

10:00-13:00 Public presentation of the pupil’s works. Q&A session.

The course will be open to a maximum number of 20 participants.

 

 

SELECTION CRITERIA
75% of available student slots are reserved for BIODIV students.
Priority will be given to:
• 1st year and other PhD students attending the BIODIV Doctoral Program;
• PhD students attending other courses;
• Other post-graduate students and researchers.
