STUDENT SEMINAR IN BIODIVERSITY AND EVOLUTION

 

 

 

Portugal has one of the largest grapevine germplasm reservoirs in the world, holding a huge but largely untapped biotechnological potential to the wine value chain. In recent years, formidable technological advancements in DNA sequencing have triggered a huge revolution in biology research. The present PhD project embodies a collaborative effort between CIBIO, the PORVID germplasm collection, and University of Copenhagen’s Globe Institute, to address the metagenomic characterization of grapevine collections that target the preservation of Portuguese biodiversity. This work will empower smart breeding strategies based on a deep scientific knowledge of the hologenomic framework that underlies national grapevine resources.

 

David Silva is a 1st year BIODIV PhD student, currently conducting his studies within CIBIO's PlantBio group, in conjunction with The Globe Institute at the University of Copenhagen. He has a multidisciplinary background with formal training in both Farmaceutical Sciences an Plant Biology.
