As part of an internship for my bachelor's degree in Biology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, I started my research at CIBIO-InBIO investigating the variation at coat color genes in hares (genus Lepus).

During my Master's, I developed highly diagnostic molecular markers for the efficient distinction and identification of hybrids of two wild/domesticated pairs of carnivore species in the Iberian Peninsula: wolves/dogs and wild/domestic cats. I obtained my PhD in 2016 with a thesis focused on the worldwide demographic history of the grey wolf (Canis lupus), and its population structure and differentiation in the Iberian Peninsula.

Currently I'm addressing several questions related to the hybridization between wolves and dogs in the Iberian Peninsula using information gained from both traditional genetic markers as well as genomic data generated by high-throughput sequencing.

I have a broad interest in phylogeography, population genetics, molecular ecology, and in the application of molecular and bioinformatic tools to these areas.
