I am a biologist working mostly on evolutionary and functional genomics in vertebrates. My main interest is trying to understand why living beings look the way they do: how does an organism’s genotype and the environment interact to generate the stunning phenotypic diversity we see in the natural world?

During my PhD I studied the evolutionary genetics of balanced colour polymorphisms in wall lizards (Podarcis spp.), combining genomic data analyses with phenotypic and functional assays to understand the evolution of colourful phenotypes in these reptiles. In the past several years I have also been involved in population genomic studies on a wide range of vertebrates, with a particular focus on birds.

Apart from research, I'm interested in science outreach to the greater public, and regularly participate in events to promote awareness of natural values and the need to protect them.
