Margarida Gonçalves
PhD Student
Graduated in Biology, with a MsC in Conservation Biology at the University of Lisbon and University of Marburg, in Germany. My main research interest is to apply genetic diversity, phylogenetic and evolution to conservation, working with endangered species. At CIBIO-InBIO, in the context of my PhD project I follow this line of research, trying to understand historical population dynamics of the Roan antelope (Hippotragus equinus) that shaped current genetic structure. Using the latest phylogeographic and genomic tools, the goal is to advise government and conservation agencies on this iconic species' future management and preservation.
