My main scientific area of research is Animal Breeding and Genetics with especial emphasis on the development of new statistical methods and computational applications for the national programs of genetic evaluation and selection of Holstein dairy cattle populations.

With recent advances in the use of genomic information, animal breeding is changing from a pure quantitative approach to include genomic molecular information in their evaluations aiming for greater accuracy in their predictions of the animal’s genetic merit. Our research group is now entering this new scientific area with the objective of studying, develop, validate and integrate new methodologies to predict genomic values and evaluate their impact on the genetic progress of the national dairy herd.
