I am interested on understanding evolution patterns and processes in bryophytes. Genetic characterization and understanding of population dynamics on clonal organisms, as some species of Sphagnum, that belong to European and African floras and barcoding of liverwort species’ complexes. I have worked on the floristic characterization of Portuguese continental mires, focusing on sphagna - morphological and genetic variability of populations as well as updating its distribution in the territory and the conservation status of peatlands. I have also developed a worldwide geographic, nomenclature and literature database for Sphagnum species to produce checklists and distribution data for conservation purposes.
