I graduated with a BSc in Biology at Universidade de Santiago de Compostela in 2015, where my thesis consisted of a Holocene palaeoclimate reconstruction in the Subantarctic region based on peat sample analyses. In 2017, I finished my Erasmus Mundus MSc in Applied Ecology at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, with the focus on climatic constrains of an micro-endemic, endangered lizard. In 2018, I completed my BSc in Geography at Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, with a thesis that reviewed the current state of conservation of alkaline peatlands in Spain. Such background and early-research experience have directed my scientific interests towards the fields of natural history and biogeography, and thus I have become keen to understand landscape and biodiversity dynamics through the integration of spatial and temporal approaches.


I am currently a PhD student at BIODESERTS, where I am carrying out a project of comparative phylogeography within the Sahara-Sahel. This work aims to explore the biogeographic and biodiversity dynamics driven by dry/humid climatic cycles since the Late Pleistocene in the largest desert on Earth. The main objectives are to test: i) climate-induced allopatric speciation as the main diversification agent; ii) biodiversity refugia and dispersal corridors; iii) relationships between genetic diversity/structure and environmental-dependent taxa persistence in refugia. I will examine whether genetic structure and genetic/spatial isolation are strong in low dispersal ability taxa, and whether taxa-specific habitat requirements are related to distinct spatial/temporal locations of refugia and of dispersal corridor dynamics. I will integrate distribution, climate, landscape, and genetic data from >30 co-distributed taxa with different dispersal abilities and habitat traits. I will statistically test biogeographic hypotheses and compare predicted refugia by genetic variability and species distribution modelling, and contrast present-day gene flow levels between ESUs/populations and dispersal corridor dynamics, while controlling for taxa-specific dispersal and habitat traits.
