My main domain of research is investigating ecological questions from individual to community level by integrating physiology and behaviour. The main focus of my studies is on ectotherm vertebrates. I obtained a PhD in biology on the topic of species interactions under future climate changes. By studying distributional patterns, habitat use and integrating physiology and behaviour of two attitudinally segregated lizards, we elucidated the potential mechanisms how future climate changes can affect the interaction between a generalist wide-spread species and range-restricted specialist species. The trait most significantly explaining observed altitudinal segregation in the studied species was physiology thus it showed that physiology is an important trait of ectotherms’ fundamental ecological and has a prominent role in community structure in general. In the future I will focus my research to studying the role and the potential of physiological traits of ectotherms to respond to future global warming. These knowledge is the basis for including species physiology into species ecological niche modelling to construct more reliable predictive models of climate change impacts.
