CIBIO-InBIO RESEARCH ON THE COVER OF JOURNAL OF AVIAN BIOLOGY
The last cover of the Journal of Avian Biology shows a common waxbill to illustrate CIBIO-InBIO research on biological invasions.

An article by CIBIO-InBIO researchers, showing that “naturalized plants decrease diet similarity between an invasive bird and its most similar native species”, made the cover of the Journal of Avian Biology’s October issue.

Gonçalo Cardoso, Gonçalo Rodrigues, Paulo Alves, Joana Vicente and João Honrado  found that waxbills, which are native from Africa and invasive in Iberia, have a distinct diet from their most similar European native bird partly due to feeding on non-native plants. Exotic-exotic relationships like this may modulated the impact of invasive species on native biodiversity.
