Gestão de Resíduos Laboratoriais na Universidade dos Açores, GeRLab

The project GeRLab, a management plan for toxic and hazardous laboratory wastes, was implemented on the three campuses of the University of the Azores, as part of the Environmental Policy undertaken by the institution in 2006. The wastes are now segregated and eliminated according to ELW categories and national legislation, and their chemical and risk characteristics are taken into account. Training of all the collaborators on waste management and health risk along with a data base of MSDSs accessed by e-link to GeRLab- CCPA and the production of a Good Laboratory Practices Code, are the most important deliverables of the project.
