Raquel Carvalho
PhD Student
Raquel Carvalho, Landscape Architect, is currently a PhD student in Landscape Architecture and Urban Ecology and a Research Fellow by the Foundation for Science and Technology. Since 2005, Raquel has worked as a landscape architect in ACB Landscape's atelier dealing with various phases of the project of public parks, private gardens and historic gardens. Currently focuses her research on cultural landscapes, but urban planning and landscape ecology are areas of research that Raquel has developed in her professional practice by working with multidisciplinary teams.
Understanding the cultural and natural heritage as structural elements, and not as something of the past and obstacles to development and evolution, are part of the acquired knowledge that she intends to develop and operationalize. As a current research objective, she proposes to develop knowledge about cultural landscapes, namely a conceptual model of study, appropriate to the cultural landscape, which allows reading over time as a necessary information base for the monitoring of changes in the landscape and the preservation of local identity.
