Rafael Gutiérrez López
Post-Doc Researcher
Vector Biologist, PhD in Integrative Biology by University of Seville. I developed my thesis entitled "Impact of the interactions between hosts vectors and pathogens on the transmission of avian malaria and flavivirus by mosquitoes" at EBD-CSIC (Estación Biológica de Doñana-Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, Seville, Spain) in Figuerola's Lab.
My professional experience has been focused on the ecology and evolution of vector-borne diseases. I have been involved in different research projects on the factors that determine the transmission success of vector-borne pathogens (i.e. avian Plasmodium, West Nile virus and Zika virus) by the mosquitoes or louse flies. In addition, I explore the role of the interactions between host-vector and pathogens drives the transmission dynamics of the pathogens under natural conditions.
