PhD Student
I obtained the degree in Microbiology at the Faculty of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University, the Master degree in Public Health at the Medical Faculty of the University of Porto and at present I am a PhD student in Veterinary Science at Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar of the University of Porto.
Since 2013, as a PhD student, the major focus of my research is the detection and characterization of the Bornaviridae infections in production and companion animals, in Portugal. With this work we intend to study the prevalence of infection, the risk factors associated with infection and characterization of the circulating virus at genetic level and comparison of its genetic variability with the isolates founded in endemic regions of Central Europe. This research will contribute to understanding of the epidemiology of the zoonotic Bornaviridae infection, necessary for the development of adequate diagnostic and surveillance methods, to control the infection.
