I graduated in Animal Science in the University of Vila Real (UTAD), and after did the master’s degree in Hydrobiology of University of Porto (FCUP). Now I am enrolled in the doctoral programme in Veterinary Science in the University of Porto (ICBAS-UP), under supervision of Dr. Julio Carvalheira and I am also teaching in the Agrarian School of Ponte de Lima, Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo.
In this moment my interest is the preservation of the portugueses autocthonous chickens breeds, like Amarela, Pedrês Portuguesa and Preta Lusitânica, classified according to the FAO, as rare and particularly endangered. My main scientific of research are these breeds, and I hope contribute to increase its intrinsic value and contribute for their conservation.
The divulgation of these studies can also permit the creation of special market niches, a valuable complement for the rural economy of Portugal and an important contribution to the conservation of this genetic heritage.
