Maria Eduarda Marques de Almeida

I am graduated in Biology by the Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade do Porto. My graduation internship was to characterize Enterococcus spp. isolates from seagull faeces and cloacae, with emphasis for antibiotic resistance and bacteriocin production. This work was carried at the MDE (Microbial Diversity and Evolution) Group.

Currently, I am attending the Cell and Molecular Biology Master at Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade do Porto, and my master project has been to develop and implement molecular tools to monitor Bacillus licheniformis populations in the fish gut using culture-independent approaches. Ultimately, this research should allow to unveil the dynamics of this gut bacteria in response to different dietary prebiotics, therefore assessing their probiotic potential.
