Since I completed my degree in Biology in 2012 I have had a special interest in marine biology and its relationship with the physical environment. Having participated in several research projects, as a student or holding a scholarship, I have acquired extensive experience in conducting and monitoring experimental trials investigating the influence of physical and chemical factors on the physiology of organisms. This work has also contributed for the development of relevant technical skills in experimental design, biochemical analyses and the setup of wet lab experimenting facilities and has provided crucial opportunities for engaging in fruitful collaborations with national and international researchers.

More recently, I have enthusiastically embraced a second and growing research interest regarding the use of engineering as a tool to solve outstanding technical issues that currently undermine ecologists’ ability to provide much-needed answers on who will be the winners and losers from climate change in marine and other ecosystems. For that reason, I have engaged in a degree in Electrotechnical and Computer Engineering at School of Engineering of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (ISEP). With this new set of skills, I hope to markedly improve the link between biologists and engineers, a relationship that rarely is as productive as it should.
