José Fernando Alves Teixeira
Post-Doc Researcher
I am currently post-doc on Science Dissemination on Biodiversity and the coordinator of CIBIO-Div (Science Communication and Biodiversity Awareness Unit of CIBIO). This Unit has been responsible for the organization of several exhibitions on biodiversity and evolution (such as “Amphibians: a paw on land, another on water” and "Darwin´s evolution”),as well as in-situ biodiversity conservation projects (e.g. Life-Trachemys), environmental education campaigns (e.g. Ponds with Life), workshops, etc.
My main focus is the development and implementation of conservation and science dissemination projects on biodiversity. I am also very interested in the implementation of environmental education projects with high practical component and the use of media tools, such as animation video and interactive modules, to increase public awareness about biodiversity, including its importance, current threats, conservation and possible contribution of everyone’s with simple changes in daily habits.
My scientific background is linked to the ecology, conservation, phylogeography, biogeography, landscape and conservation genetics of endemic amphibians. I belong to the research teams of several scientific projects for the study of the Iberian herpetofauna and urban biodiversity and I'm part of the author’s teams of the “Fapas Field Guide for the Amphibians and Reptiles of Portugal” and the “Portuguese Red Data Book”. I’m also a member of the the Portuguese Biodiversity Commitee, the Portuguese herpetofauna Association (SPH) and Platform Sabor Livre.
