I graduated in Biology from the Faculty of Science of the University of Porto in 2021, and I am currently working on my master thesis, inserted in the MSc in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution at CIBIO-UP.

During my bachelor's internship at CIBIO, I used estrildid finches (family Estrildidae) to complement past comparative work and understand the evolution of pigmentation patterns in relation to ecological and life-history differences among species. For the pigmentation patterns that are more abundant in this family, I tested predictions of evolution due to social signalling, camouflage, or both.

In my master thesis, I am currently testing, in well-controlled conditions, if common waxbills (Estrilda astrild) are adopting a complex strategy to manage dominance hierarchies: showing-off aggressiveness.
