My main research interests are focused on carnivore behaviour and ecology with an emphasis on their conservation. Much of my experience has been focused on wolves, on which I have been working since 2002. My past work was dedicated to population monitoring and dynamics in two Portuguese wolf sub-populations (North and South of Douro River). Moreover, I developed a predator-prey relationship study between wolves and free-ranging livestock for three years.

At present, I’m concerned in understanding how anthropogenic changes to the landscape may influence wolf population dynamics. In the sequence of this interest my master thesis was focused on spatial analysis of the habitat for wolves in a highly humanized landscape (MsC in Science and Geographic Information Systems). Additionally, I’m studying some aspects of wolf social ecology, namely reproductive and social behaviour.
