I am a Landscape Architect (University of Lisbon, 2005) and the title of my final degree dissertation was: "Swimming ponds - project, execution and maintenance".
Currently, I am a PhD student and my research is on sustainable water management in green areas under Mediterranean climate.
Under this framework, we are conducting an experimental test, in which plants are irrigated with different amounts of water according to the local evapotranspiration, as well as different types of water: (1) groundwater, (2) disinfected recycled water from Beirolas Waste Water Treatment Plant, in Lisbon, Portugal.
We are analyzing three groups of native woody plants with contrasting characteristics, evaluating plant growth, aesthetical value, environmental and health safety.
Our hypothesis is that planting native species under deficit irrigation conditions, and irrigating them with disinfected reclaimed water, can be carried out to create gardens full of identity and sense of place, and at the same time recycling urban water.
