My researches are not restricted to a specific line of work, I´m not a specialist. However, I focus my research on amphibians and reptiles, using them as model species. These vertebrates, allow me to work in both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems for investigating ecological interactions at different hierarchical levels. My main areas of research are ecology, pollution processes, ecotoxicology (at different hierarchical levels: subcellular, individual, populations and ecosystem), conservation, effects of land use on species distribution, behaviour, physiology, genetic variability, biochemistry, abiotic indicators, bioindicators and biomarkers.

Actually, I am particularly interested in the influence of climate changes on the adverse effects caused by pesticides on ecosystem, at different hierarchical levels, using amphibian and reptiles as a model. I believe that herps are good models to develop a ‘community modules’ approach that simplifies entire food webs into tractable sub-webs of strong interactions, that can help elucidate how species interactions will be influenced by climate change regarding the adverse effects caused by contamination on aquatic and terrestrial community. In addition, I am also working in ecophysiology of lacertids lizards, Podarcis hispanica species complex, integrating thermal and water ecology data, in to mechanistic models of potential species distribution. Mediterranean Basin (Northern and Southern) are my main working areas but I have extended my activities as far as the Caucasus area.

I think that science is a network that requires multiple interactions between different groups, in order to integrate the information into a coherent whole. My scientific interest is still open to new research, if you think that we have something in common in our research, if you work with any species that interacts with amphibians and reptiles, please, contact me.
