I obtained the degree of Master in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, in 2010. My research work and thesis focused on the Mycobacterium avium complex in granulomatous lymphadenitis of slaughtered pigs for consumption.

I joined CIBIO-InBIO in March 2011 involved in a project with the title: “Development of methods to increase the fertilizing ability of chilled and frozen stallion semen: a multidisciplinary approach”.
Since 2012, I have been working mainly with Parvoviruses of dogs and feline in the context of my PhD program. The major focus of my research is the detection and characterization of the parvovirus infections in carnivores. The continuous monitoring of Parvoviruses in animals, studying its genetic and antigenic characteristics as well as the circulation dynamics within the animal’s populations is to be performed, for a better understanding of the disease prevalence, virus variants involved, that will help addressing the impact of pets immunization strategies used locally. The continuous surveillance will help to assess whether there is a real need to update currently available vaccines and diagnostic tests.
My research interests also involve Parvovirus and other infectious agents of wild boar.
