I have a broad interest in the use in applying molecular genetic markers to address questions of importance in contemporary conservation biology of birds, as identification of cryptic species, genetic structure and population differentiation, hybridization, migration history and definition of conservation units. During my master research I developed new genetic markers - single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) in Alectoris partridges and Coturnix coturnix quails to detect hybridisation with exotic species. I have recently applied for a PhD grant to study the genetic variation of a migratory wader, the dunlin Calidris alpina. Genetic data will provide valuable information for future conservation actions on target populations throughout its distribution range and will present a clear perception of the intraspecific variation on migratory dynamics.
