I am a biologist and a high-school teacher, holding a MSc degree in biology and geology teacher education for middle and secondary schools from the University of Porto. Science education and communication, specifically in microbiology and bioinformatics, are currently my main interests. Recently, I joined the Microbial Diversity and Evolution Group at CIBIO-InBIO to carry out an FCT funded PhD project entitled "Integrating bioinformatics at the interdisciplinary intersection of elementary and secondary school curricula using a bottom-up approach”, on science education.

So far, following my interest in this area, I have participated in several science communication events and initiatives, as for instance:

- 11th International Conference on Hands-on Science, with the oral communication "Staining Techniques Can Help to Learn About Bacteria: A Hands-on Activity" (2014);
- a Molecular Genetics activity - "A Oficina da Genética" - for the General Public, integrated in the "European Week of Hemochromatosis" (2013);
- "Open days" of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (2013);
- Annual Display of the University of Porto (2013).

Examples of complementary training I received include the participation in the Junior University of Porto’s Training Program for Explainers, on the 6th of June of 2014, and several attended lectures, workshops and seminars about biology and geology teaching and science communication.
