During my master’s thesis, and the year after it, I studied the evolution of colour ornamentation in a bird family, the Estrildidae, to understand the evolution of sexual ornamentation traits and its influence in ecology and speciation. My main research interests focus on sexual selection, sexual ornamentation and its evolution, and social interactions.

Now I am doing my PhD on how phenotypes influences social structure and mate choice. My PhD project is a long-term study of unprecedented detail on the social structure and phenotypes of a gregarious avian species, the common waxbill, where I will try to clarify how non-sexual and sexual social associations interact to shape social structure and sexual selection in gregarious animals.
