I am interested in understanding the evolutionary processes occurring in marine fish taxa that have shaped the current biodiversity, particularly among elasmobranchs (i.e. sharks and rays). The main focus of my work has been on the study of population- and species-level patterns of diversity, using a combination of molecular tools, basic biology and ecology.

I am also interested in the taxonomy and phylogeny of squaloid sharks, the second most species rich Order of sharks. I have been working in collaboration with other colleagues on the clarification of the alpha taxonomy of the gulper sharks (genus Centrophorus) as well as of the dogfish sharks (genus Squalus), using molecular genetic data as well as morphological and biological data.
