I got my PhD at University of Coimbra working on taxonomy and phylogeny of thermophilic bacteria. My postdoctoral fellowship research was developed at IMAR-Instituto do Mar, University of Coimbra, on environmental microbiology. My research interests were focused on microbial diversity of metal/uranium contaminated of environments, identification of key organisms with remarkable metal-interactions abilities and determination of the phenotypic and genetic mechanisms that shape these interactions. In October 2014, I have joined the Microbial Diversity and Evolution group of the CIBIO-InBIO, where currently I am working on comparative genomics by in silico approaches to study the adaptation of different microbial groups to the gut environment.
