UNESCO CHAIR "LIFE ON LAND" AWARDED TO UNIVERSITY OF PORTO
In the context of an application submitted by CIBIO-InBIO to the UNESCO Chair program, U.Porto has now been awarded its first chair called Life on Land. Through this UNESCO Chair an exceptional set of training, academic and professional development, research and promotion of scientific culture will be put into practice, in areas of extreme relevance such as the conservation of biodiversity and the maintenance, management and preservation of resources and of natural heritage.
The Chair Life on Land integrates the CIBIO-InBIO TwinLabs network and institutions from South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. One of its purposes is to promote the linkage between science and society through initiatives to raise awareness of the urgent importance of preserving biodiversity and natural heritage and to mobilize the ordinary citizen to carry out concrete and practical actions at this level. The UNESCO Chair Life on Land will be the seventh granted to an institution in Portugal and the first to the U.Porto. Nuno Ferrand de Almeida will be the holder of this Chair, being responsible for the general coordination and the constitution of the teams that will guarantee its achievement.
