THE WORK CARRIED OUT BY CIBIO-InBIO RESEARCHERS ON THE HYBRIDIZATION BETWEEN WOLVES AND DOGS HAS MADE THE FEBRUARY COVER OF THE JOURNAL MOLECULAR ECOLOGY RESOURCES

The image of an Iberian wolf which appears in the front cover of the latest issue of the journal Molecular Ecology Resources, highlights a work developed at CIBIO-InBIO and headed by CONGEN researcher Raquel Godinho. The article entitled Real-time assessment of hybridization between wolves and dogs: combining noninvasive samples with ancestry informative markers focus on the comparative power of 52 nuclear markers with a subset of 13 ancestry informative markers. The results obtained show that ancestry informative markers are as accurate as the full set of markers in identifying wolf-dog backcrosses, and have the advantage of being rapidly screened on noninvasive samples. Therefore, this is a reliable tool for conservation, allowing to efficiently evaluate hybridization and to estimate the success of management actions.
