OUTCOMES OF THE PROJECT SOS RABBIT DISCUSSED IN THIS YEAR’S EDITION OF FEIRA DA CAÇA, IN MÉRTOLA

From October 16 to October 18, 2015, Mértola hosted the sixth of its already famous Feira da Caça. Included in the programme of this event was a conference organized by CIBIO-InBIO, the National Association of Owners and Hunting Producers(1) and the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Fund(2) with the purpose of sharing and fostering the discussion of some of the outcomes gathered so far in the context of the nationwide project SOS Rabbit (SOS Coelho), an initiative that ensued the celebration of a collaboration protocol between the three entities on October 2014.

With the participation of CIBIO-InBIO researchers Paulo Célio Alves, Pedro Esteves and Pedro Monterroso, this conference, which took place on Saturday, October 17, focused specifically on the analysis of the data obtained for the game areas in Mértola’s county.

In addition to this event, CIBIO-InBIO’s broader activities were also represented at this event through an info stand, conveying relevant information about a plethora of our ongoing projects and services.

This first formal presence of CIBIO-InBIO at Feira da Caça stems from the collaboration protocol signed on July 25, 2015, by the Municipality of Mértola and the Research Network in Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology (InBIO), which has led to the installation of a brand new Biological Station in the region that will foster the development of research and dissemination studies in relevant fields such as conservation and management of game and fishing resources, among others.
