JOANA MARQUES’ ACTIVITIES WITH LICHENS GATHER THE ATTENTION OF KIDS AND GROWN UPS ALIKE

JOANA MARQUES’ ACTIVITIES WITH LICHENS GATHER THE ATTENTION OF KIDS AND GROWN UPS ALIKE

The programme “Environment in Family” is being developed by the Municipal Council of Porto since the beginning of this year. Twice a month, families have the opportunity to carry out practical activities, for free, and talk with specialists in a given environment-related area.

Líquenes à moda do Norte” was the theme of the first session of this programme, which took place in the Environmental Education Centre of the Cristal Palace Gardens. CIBIO-InBIO’s researcher Joana Marques conducted the activities for an audience of families, which, according to the online news site Porto.pt, were a huge success. The 22 attendants had the chance to learn more about lichens – a symbiosis between an algae and a fungus – and their ecological importance.
