CIBIO-InBIO REINFORCES ITS CONNECTION WITH ANGOLA BY BEING AT FILDA 2018 AND XXVIII AULP MEETING

At FILDA 2018, which took place between July 10 and 14 in Bengo (Luanda), CIBIO-InBIO presented itself through a promotional stand with the main information about the research center and, particularly, about its collaborations with Africa.

According to Carlos Almeida Pereira, "useful contacts have been established, especially at the governmental level”. The stand was visited by the Portuguese political delegation, led by the Secretary of State for Internationalization, Eurico Brilhante Dias, and by the Angolan political delegation headed by the Minister of Economy, Pedro Luís da Fonseca, accompanied, among others, by the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Innovation and the Secretary of State for the Environment.

The XXVIII AULP Meeting, which took place in Lubango, from July 18 to 20, counted on the political and academic representation of Angola, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Brazil, Macau, Sao Tome and Principe, East Timor and Portugal. During the event Carlos Almeida Pereira presented the UNESCO Chair Life on Land and CIBIO-InBIO's network of Twinlabs and had “the opportunity to do formal and informal contacts in the scope of Chair projects to Lubango”.

Taking advantage of the stay in the city there was still time to visit CIBIO Twinlab in Lubango, at the Higher Institute of Educational Sciences (ISCED - Huíla). This was the first CIBIO Twinlab to be established, in 2012.

Biodiversity Twinlabs Network intends to boost capacity building & science by leading solid partnerships in the Southern Africa region and Portuguese-speaking African countries. In November 2017, CIBIO-InBIO was awarded the UNESCO Chair Life on Land with the specific aim of coordinating and fostering the interactions between these TwinLabs.
