CIBIO-InBIO contributes to the fight against COVID-19 in Angola

On June 26, 2020 a symbolic ceremony was held at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine to commemorate the official handover to the Angolan Embassy laboratory equipment for Lubango.

This donation is the result of a joint action involving CIBIO-InBIO, Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (IHMT-UNL), through the Centro Ciência LP, and Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT), with the support of the Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Ensino Superior e do Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros, through Camões, Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua.

The equipment now being donated to the laboratory of the Mandume Ya Ndemufayo University, an institution that is part of the CIBIO TwinLab in Angola, will reinforce its technical-scientific capacity and allow the University to support the health units of the Province in Covid-19 diagnosis procedures.

This initiative will permit: the lending, by CIBIO, to the TwinLabs Network, of a PCR-RT device and accessory testing equipment; technical-scientific laboratory training for health professionals of the Province and other elements involved in scientific projects; and participation in research projects to be carried out in the field of combating infectious diseases in Africa.
