On December 17, 2015 CIBIO-InBIO will host the public presentation of the book The Natural History of the Desertas Islands | História Natural das Ilhas Desertas.

This book, launched in Cape Verde on December 1, 2015, is focused on the biodiversity of Desertas Islands – Santa Luzia, Branco and Raso, providing an invaluable tool to raise awareness about the natural patrimony of these islands and bringing attention to the need to set up conservation and management measures that can ensure the preservation of the natural heritage comprised therein.

Co-edited by CIBIO-InBIO’s researcher, Raquel Vasconcelos, and sponsored by the the Global Environmental Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF-SGP) and the Capeverdian Environment-Spatial planning Ministry, "The Natural History of the Desertas Islands” includes contributions from various international specialists. The book will soon be available for purchase, and the revenues will be used to support research projects of Capeverdian and European students and researchers in the Desert Islands. Together with the printed Portuguese version, the readers have also access to a digital English version.

During the event, the outstanding documentary "The Desert Islands” | "As Ilhas Desertas”, produced by Alexandre Vaz e Madalena Boto, will be broadcasted.

In this context, CIBIO-InBIO would like to invite all those who share an interest on the topics covered in this book to attend its presentation ceremony, which will take place at 14h30 in Campus de Vairão, Vila do Conde.
