PLANT DEVELOPMENT – ASPECTS OF GENE AND HORMONE CONTROL

WELCOME SEMINAR IN BIODIVERSITY AND EVOLUTION

Plants have the fascinating ability to undergo continuous growth and development and simultaneously fulfill functions such as support, transport and protection. Their successful expansion from aquatic to terrestrial habitats required several structural innovations and adaptations, like the establishment of organs for anchorage and absorption of water and minerals (roots), the development of efficient transport systems (vascular tissues) and the adaptation of outermost cell layers to protect against abiotic/ biotic agents, to control water, gas and solutes exchange with the environment (epidermis and periderm). In this seminar, it will be presented advances on current knowledge about molecular mechanisms that regulate plant development.

Ana Campilho graduated in Biology from the University of Porto (1996) and completed her PhD degree (2005) in Developmental Genetics from the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands. Following a post-doc period at University of Helsinki, Finland she returned to Portugal in 2009 to work at the IBMC, Porto. Since May 2015, Ana Campilho is a researcher at CIBIO-InBIO’s PLANTBIO group.
