Exhibition – Meeting Africa. The identity of Mozambique through its biodiversity

Let yourself become fascinated by the wonders of the local biodiversity and the ways in which women and men learned how to embrace and transform it into captivating objects. Take a journey from a distant past that begun with the collection and study of those objects into a present that makes us reflect upon the sustainable future of nature.
In this exhibition you will find a selection of objects from the anthropology collection, which highlight the cultural and biological richness of Mozambique, along with other different specimens of the natural history collection. The objects are disposed according to different thematic areas – Body, Home, War and Music – which illustrate the various goods and services that biodiversity has to offer to society.
More than a journey to Africa, this exhibition is also a walk through the history of the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra and through our own history, which is deeply connected to the different world species

Deixe-se fascinar pela beleza da sua diversidade cultural e pela forma como homens e mulheres souberam usar a biodiversidade local, transformando-a numa miríade de objetos, e viaje de um passado que começou na recolha e estudo desses objetos até um presente que nos faz refletir sobre o futuro sustentável da natureza.
Nesta exposição vai encontrar uma seleção de objetos da coleção de antropologia que evidenciam a riqueza cultural e biológica de Moçambique, ao lado de exemplares das coleções de história natural. Os objetos estão organizados por áreas temáticas - Corpo, Lar, Confronto, Música - que ilustram os diferentes bens e serviços que a biodiversidade fornece às sociedades.
Mais que uma viagem a África, é também um passeio pela história da museologia da Universidade de Coimbra e pela nossa própria história, tão intrinsecamente ligada às restantes espécies.
